HAVING TROUBLE FINDING TIME TO FUNDRAISE?

TRY OUT THESE TIPS TO HOST AN EXCITING SPIN CLASS FUNDRAISER!

Q: What was your fundraiser?

A: I hosted a spin class at the local spin studio in the town where I go to school. I met with the owner, whom I have known for a while and we set a donation price for the spin class and worked out the details for the event.  I created a Facebook event and invited people from the area who I  thought might be interested, and explained when and where and gave information about the 4K, and more information about my fundraising goals. I was very surprised at how many people were interested! All 12 spots filled up within a few hours.

Q: If you could do it again, would you do anything differently?

A: I would have incorporated more elements to the event, maybe had a flyer with information to hand out and pass along, or bracelets sold at the event. I also would have liked to use the opportunity to announce other events that I was planning, etc. But overall I felt that the event was very easy to plan and super effective!

Q: How long did it take to plan?

A: Most of the planning and communication was through Facebook and Email, so it was fairly easy and simple to plan. This took some time, but I was surprised at the quick responses from those involved.

Q: How did you advertise it and how many people showed up?

A: I had a page that served to share with my friends and community both here at College and at home, about my 4K ride and update on my progress – so I posted the event on this page, and specifically invited those who live in the area. I had space for only 12 riders, and I was able to fill all 12 spots within a few hours after posting the event!

Q: Were you able to get things donated? If so, what?

A: Yes, each rider donated $15, or whatever they could, and I raised $180 for spin class long event! For the ease of the planning, it was a great outcome. (The spin instructor donated time and the cycle room space including 12 cycle bikes).

Q: How did you make the money?

A: The riders donated about $15 in order to participate in the ride.

Q: Additional helpful tips to others looking to do something similar.

A: Just have conversations with people! I decided to do the event simply through a conversation with a local spin instructor – a method in which I will most definitely use with other local businesses. People love to hear about what you are passionate about, so don’t be shy about spreading the word!
