Every year 4K for Cancer finds a way to create unique team dynamics and lasting relationships. No team is ever alike, but each team continues to have an unspoken bond. They all go through the same process, same orientation, same training, but they find a way to make their trip their own.

In 2019, this trend held true. Each of our teams ended with teary-eyed and wide-smiled hugs after they completed this amazing feat together. Aspen, a member of 4K Team Boston this past summer, did a perfect job in explaining this concept in her blog post, “An Open Letter to Team Boston 2019.”

The 4K and Ulman staff are thankful for Aspen’s ability to express how much of an impact your 4K team can have on not only each other, but the cancer community. Continue reading below to see how Team Boston 2019 changed each others’ lives.

An Open Letter to Team Boston 2019

By: Aspen, 4K Team Boston Alum

Dear 4K Family,

Out of the 7.5 billion humans on this planet, how did we get so lucky to meet one another? It’s a question I’ve contemplated for a few days now. Trying to make sense of why we were privileged enough to change the world side by side. Turns out, the answer is quite simple. We all share the desire to make a positive difference in the world.

Our common desire led us into each other’s lives, and thus began the start of an incredibly life changing experience for ourselves and those around us. Our meeting, our new found connection, was no mistake or happenstance by any means. I choose to believe it was the miraculous work of God, but I’ll leave it up to you to thank whatever higher power you believe in.

The work we accomplished, the lives we changed, the good we put into this world…it’s one of the most impactful and fulfilling things we can do as humans. I can only hope each of you knows how important of a role you played in this process.

When we shared our “Whys” at the beginning of the summer, I expressed how helpless I felt in this world. A world, where so many are in pain and suffering. Because of you and the work we’ve done together, I feel at ease. I no longer feel helpless. I can finally begin to understand the battle, honor those who have fallen, and celebrate with those who have conquered this fight of life. For that, I am forever grateful. Thank you, Team Boston, for guiding and leading me to this realization!

Team Boston 2019, keep striving to change the world and inspire those around you to do the same! You are amazing individuals who will forever be a part of my life. Thank you for all you have shown me about this beautiful world we are so fortunate enough to be a part of!

All of my love,

Aspen”
