4K for Cancer is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Our runners and riders have the chance to serve the cancer community, while doing something that they love. There are many reasons why 4K is an incredible experience … we could go on and on. But we did our best to narrow it down to the top 10 reasons why you should apply for this amazing adventure.

1.  Spend your summer doing something that matters

It’s always fun to lounge around the pool, read a nice book, netflix binge, and relax on a hot summer day, but you can do that any summer. Make your next summer something special through 4K — fundraise, volunteer, meet patients (and their families), make a difference. You can do all of this and more by running or biking across the country for a cause that is bigger than us all.

2. Have a summer-long slumber party

Remember how hard it was to say goodbye after those amazing slumber parties with your best friends in middle school? Well, now, you don’t have to say goodbye the following morning. Or even the morning after that. In fact, you get to have a whole summer of slumber party after slumber party with some of the best people you’ll ever meet.

3. See the country in a whole new way

Do you love traveling? Or do you want to start traveling, but don’t know how to start? 4K is THE perfect opportunity for both experienced and inexperienced travelers to see the country in a whole new way and visit amazing landmarks, like the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls, along the way.

4. Meet amazing new people and create lasting friendships

4K is the perfect opportunity to meet like-minded people. You can meet other runners, other bikers, people who also care about serving their community, and people who want to make a difference in this world. And after spending an entire summer together, these teammates will become family. Even though you come from places all over the world, after this summer, you will have an experience you will never forget and a connection that will last a lifetime.

5.  Run or bike every day

Wake Up. Run/Bike. Sightsee. Repeat.

What better way to spend your summer than doing something you love? 4K gives you the chance to spend every day running or biking. There is something special about seeing the beautiful scenery of the United States at the pace of a run or a bike ride.

6. Try every kind of granola bar

We mean it. Every kind. Clif bars, KIND bars, Larabars, Nature Valley bars, Fig Bars, you name it. This is your opportunity to try them all. You can even take it one step farther and use your knowledge and expertise to write a granola bar review blog. Share your wisdom with the world!

7. Challenge yourself physically and mentally

If you’re looking for a challenge, 4K is the experience for you. There are challenging aspects that come with spending 49 or 70 days of your summer running or biking. This is a great opportunity to test your body and see what you are truly capable of.

But another (and more important) way to look at this, is that 4K is a great opportunity to take advantage of a healthy body and give back to those who can’t take on the challenges of biking or running across the United States.

8. Potentially meet your future spouse

Looking to meet someone new? There have been quite a few romances on 4K that have turned into weddings. And if you meet your special someone on 4K, you won’t have any trouble filling up your wedding party, either. Your teammates will be eager to fill those spots.

9. Honor your loved ones

Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. 4K can be your way to give back to a cause that has impacted so many, honor those who are fighting or fought this terrible disease, and remember those who you or someone you loved has lost.

10. Learn to appreciate the little things in life

Spending a summer sleeping on the ground, staying in a new town every night, and simply running or biking everyday will help you realize how much we have in life and how little we actually need. 4K will remind you what really matters in life and show you how to truly enjoy and take in the little moments each and every day.
