Meet SuSandi Htut

SuSandi Htut

SuSandi is a senior at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. In the summer of 2012 she is riding with a group of college students on a 70 day, 4000+ mile bike ride from Baltimore to San Francisco.

What is your connection with the cancer community?

I have been so fortunate to say that no one in my immediate family has been affected by cancer, however, I have had many family friends and members of my extended family battle through cancer. I have been involved in the cancer community through my past internship experiences. During the summer of 2011, I interned for ENACCT (Education Network to Advance Cancer Clinical Trials). Through my internship, I learned about the educational aspect behind the cancer community. I attended conferences where major organizations met to discuss ideas on how to fight cancer and how to educate the public. Attending these conferences made me realize the strength of the cancer community and how they were all working together to achieve the same goal. I have been lucky to have met many impressive and inspiring people through my internship who have motivated me to fight against cancer as well.

Why are you riding the 4K for Cancer?

I want to ride on the 4K for Cancer because I wish to give hope and support to all cancer patients and their families. I want to be an inspiration to all cancer patients and their families because they have inspired me to fight alongside with them. This summer, I hope to ride for those who can't and give hope to those who are currently battling cancer and their families. I am pushing myself to achieve something I have never even thought possible. I believe it will be an experience I will never forget for the rest of my life.
