What is your connection with the cancer community?

On March 26, 2010, a friend of mine that I had known since we were both 8 years old, passed away after an almost three year battle with cancer. He was a good and incredibly bright person with a future full of promise; the kind of person that everyone had something good to say about him. Earlier this year, my brother was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Although considered to be one of the more benign cancers, he still had considerable complications from it - namely, loosing his voice for quite some time. These are my most personal connections but it is in fact a constant connection. From the girl at the check out counter who just found out her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer to the much more innocuous onslaught of information about the newest health food that is supposed to be cancer-preventative, cancer is something that I, and I'm sure many others, live with on a daily basis.

Why are you riding the 4K for Cancer?

I am riding in memory of my friend who passed in March of 2010. During his fight with cancer, he proved how immense the human spirit can be. I want to do something that, although comparatively small, will pay homage to his fight and the spirit he displayed to me.
