What is your connection with the cancer community?
When I rode with the 4K for Cancer in 2010, I was inspired by the people in the communities in which we stayed. Everyone was so open and willing to share the stories of their own encounters with cancer, and it helped us all feel a sense of togetherness; we all came together to share and contribute toward a common cause. While on that ride, I learned that a dear friend of mine had been diagnosed with cancer. I was immensely concerned for her, but when we talked I was struck by her courage. She approached the issue with an incredibly hopeful, positive outlook that was truly inspirational. She has since won her fight against cancer.
Why are you riding the 4K for Cancer?
I'm riding with the 4K for Cancer in honor of all those I know who have battled with cancer. I'm riding to honor those I met on the ride in 2010 who were so gracious and so generous. I'm riding because I strongly believe that we all can make a positive difference in the world. We may have different talents, beliefs, and resources, but we all can make a contribution.
