Meet Jeff Graves

Jeff Graves

Jeff is a junior at Towson University.  In the summer of 2012 he is riding with a group of college students on a 70 day, 4000+ mile bike ride from Baltimore to San Francisco.

What is your connection with the cancer community?

Family and close friends have battled with the disease, and I know firsthand the suffering and pain it causes the ill and support givers. Both of my grandfathers and my aunt had this disease and survived, and a friend’s mother also successfully overcame it. Recently my family was caught off guard when my uncle, a man in his 50’s, was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. I hope this family trend continues for my uncle who is a huge inspiration in my life and for this ride. So, even at the age of 24, I have been touched by cancer in many ways. And sadly, my experience is probably not an uncommon one.

Why are you riding the 4K for Cancer?

I have always wanted the opportunity to ride a bicycle across America. Upon discovering the 4k for Cancer, my initial focus was on the ride; however, due to my uncle’s recent cancer diagnoses, my motivation changed and I now want to be an active fighter against the disease. I am anxious to donate my time and money towards accomplishing my donation goal and will do anything to reach it. The ride across America may be difficult at times, but it will be nothing compared to the struggles of people fighting cancer daily. I want to be a part of the 4k for Cancer, because it is an opportunity to raise money for the support of cancer victims.
