Christopher Lubas
Chris graduated with BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. In the summer of 2011 he is riding with a group of college students on a 70 day, 4000 mile bike ride from Baltimore to Portland. Money raised by our riders goes to support 4K for Cancer's mission of spreading awareness, fostering hope and uniting communities across the county in the fight against cancer. We do this through cancer education programs, health screenings and by visiting cancer patients at hospitals, cancer centers and hospices each day during the ride. 4K also gives financial support to local, cancer centric non-profits in the communities we bike through.
I look forward to this trip as a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a difference in my life and the lives of those I will meet along the way. I have to admit I have never done anything like this before having biked no more than a few miles at a time, so biking several thousand miles across the country from Baltimore to Portland seems like an almost insurmountable challenge. But this is nothing compared to the pain and suffering that cancer patients and their families struggle with each and every day. I am hoping that on this trip I will have the opportunity to meet some of these individuals and to make a difference, even if so brief, in their lives. I plan to befriend several cancer patients along the way as I travel across America and commute to see them by bicycle. Some of the individual’s will be in need of funds for treatment and part of the funds I raise will go to cover their costs and the cost needed to support the cancer homes they are living in. I am heartened by the fact that the money that I raise can go to help fight cancer in America. During the trip I will be part of a larger group involved in doing community service through outreach, cancer education, visiting patients at hospitals, cancer centers and hospices. However, before I can start the trip I need to raise $4500 and I ask for your generous support. A donation of any size is really appreciated and will be put to good use helping cancer patients.
