The 4K for Cancer is a 4,000 mile charity bicycle ride across the United States to raise money and support communities affected by cancer.  Three teams of 30 college-aged riders will bike from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor to PortlandSan Francisco, or Seattle. A brief description of each ride can be found on each of the 2012 ride pages, or by following the appropriate links.  Each ride covers over 4,000 miles of diverse terrain, and includes countless awe-inspiring sights along the route.  All riders will depart from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on May 27, 2012 and will arrive in their respective destination cities on August 4, 2012. The 4K for Cancer is the most unique life-changing experience available to young adults.

Riders will stay in 178 host communities throughout the summer.  In each community, riders have the opportunity to share their connection to the cancer fight and to play a part in uniting and inspiring these communities to overcome the challenges posed by this destructive disease.   By forging these connections across the country and celebrating the lives of loved ones touched by cancer, 4K riders are empowered to overcome the tremendous physical, mental, and emotional challenges associated with this ride, culminating in the most rewarding 70 days of their lives.

In 2012, we aim to raise over $400,000 to support the efforts of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.  The Ulman Cancer Fund strives to support, educate, and connect young adults, and their loved ones, affected by cancer.  The UCF provides direct support services to young adults battling cancer through the Patient Navigation program, peer mentoring, and college scholarships.  To accomplish these goals each rider is charged with raising $4,500.  The 4K for Cancer is one of the UCF’s Awareness through Sport programs, all of which are focused on engaging individuals in the cancer fight and promoting health, wellness, and a sense of community.  Similar programs include Team Fight, the organization’s endurance event training team, and Cancer to 5K.

All accepted riders receive a complimentary new road bike, outfitted for a cross-country trip.  Each of the 178 communities will open their doors and provide lodging free of charge.  Approximately 1,000 restaurants and grocery stores will donate food to sustain our riders.  These are just a few of the benefits provided to our riders in appreciation for their service to communities affected by cancer.

**WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2012 AS THE TRIPS ARE FULL.**
