Q: What was your fundraiser?

A: Ribs Fundraiser – I sold racks of ribs for $20 and $12 for a half rack,  I smoked ribs on a bank loaned smoker at my house and delivered or met with people at some place like the Wal-Mart parking lot to give them their ribs. I have done three batches of ribs and will be doing a third.

Q: If you could do it again, would you change anything?

A: Along the way I have changed things, as the fundraiser grew each time I got more organized to deal with the load of how many ribs we were producing in one week.

Q: How long did it take to plan?

A: I had the idea one day in October and started in November with only a weeks notice for people to order ribs. That first time I sold 6 racks, but that helped to get the word out to others and the people who ordered told others. And then it grew each time, the three real times, about one every month, I have sold 36, 72, and 111 racks consecutively and will sell again in the near future.

Q: How did you advertise it and how many people showed up?

A: I honestly just advertised through facebook and word of mouth either at school or my parent’s work.  Each time it has grown and that is mainly because of how the people have enjoyed the ribs, most end up ordering again and then we add to theirs with new people’s orders.

Q: Were you able to get things donated?

A: I have not got anything donated, but I have had to work with SAM’s to order ribs in bulk, most times they don’t hold the stock I need on any given day without notice. I was able to use the First Security Bank’s smoker for free, I just have had to ask in advance.

Q: How did you make money?

A: All the money I have made is from profit of selling ribs, once again $20 for a full rack and $12 for a half rack.

Q: Any tips?

A: If you want to do something similar just start, I think the biggest difference I could have made was just doing it earlier instead of wondering if I could actually do it. Go out and be successful; it just takes one step and in this case, one facebook post.
