Dear Jake

July 23, 2012

Dear Jake,

My favorite superheroes have always been from comics or in cartoons. Their superpowers make them more special than ordinary people. Superman can fly and is really strong. Spider-man can climb buildings and shoot webs from his hands. Batman has an awesome utility belt and cool cars. They all fight to beat evil. What makes them heroes is the courage they show when all hope seems lost. They have courage to defeat the bad guys around them, they stay strong for others, they never give up, and they fight with everything they have.

Even though Superman, Spider-man, and Batman are all amazing, they don’t come close to the coolest and strongest superhero I know… YOU! Every day that you fight and stay strong, people are inspired by your courage and strength. Your superpowers are out of this world! The battles can be tough, but like a superhero, you will make it through. You have fans that are so proud of you and who think you are the greatest!

You inspire me, and I think of myself as one of your biggest fans. It makes me proud thinking of you every day. I often wonder what I could do if I had just half of your strength and superpowers. Keep up the fight and know that I am cheering for you! You’re awesome. It’s a bird… It’s a plane… No, it’s Jake Grecco!

With Love and best wishes from your BIGGEST fan,

Chey

P.S.- If you ever need a sidekick, I might know a good person for the job.

P.P.S.- That person is me. I want to be your sidekick.

You don’t know me, but I’m a friend to a rider on the San Fransisco team. I wanted to say your post brought tears to my eyes with such tenderness and inspiration. Jake is young and no one, his age, or any age should have to fight such a tough battle. Yet, I believe it’s people such as yourself that give Jake and others the ability, strength and hope to continue fighting and overcome the obsticles.
Thank you for sharing this post.
    Cycle safe and take care!

I can’t even begin to imagine what his family and what you are going through, but know that you have made such a difference in Jake’s life. Life is awfully unfair and senseless most of the time, but it is worth living because of the fighters in this world.

Keep on fighting and riding. <3 Keeping you, Jake, and his family in my prayers.

For readers of this blog: Jake The Hero Grecco lost his battle earlier today (Aug 1) in Germany just hours before he was to board a medical flight to take him home to his family in New Jersey. He inspired thousands and touched the lives of many of the riders of the 4K. He and his family were touched by the many times the 4K riders dedicated their rides to him. A Superhero has left us but continues to inspire.

    Chey,
I never saw this letter to Jake until just now…those last days in Germany were such a whirlwind and I know there are also posts and messages from Jake’s FB page that I haven’t read yet because it is hard to do. I am so glad I was led to this page today. Thank you for all you did for us and still do for us through spreading awareness. You are a very special person and I hope that you will forever be part of our lives, even from such a long distance.
    Love,
    Stacey
