Day 28 – Van Duty!

June 27, 2012

Atlantic Iowa, to Omaha NE
New Host, Home Stay with Kelly and Kelly Halverson
Previous Host: First United Methodist
Day 28
No map, sorry.

Today Yoshi and I mastered the water van. Keeping everyone hydrated and fed! We had two water stops and a lunch stop just east of Omaha! During the water stop, Master Yoshi played the guitar, singing songs to the riders inviting them to the water stop, but also telling them when it’s time to get back on the bike and ride!

I spent most of the time waiting at the water stops reading the second Hunger Games book, Catching Fire. Really intense book, even harder to put down. I would be reading it now if i wasn’t writing this blog! :P

I didn’t take a whole lot of pictures like i did last time. But they best part of today was meeting our hosts! Thanks to whomever set up our home-stay! Eric and I stayed with Kelly and Kelly, husband and wife with the same name! They have three very awesome daughters, Cora, Della and Ada.

We arrived at the church we sets up the home-stay, and meet our host there. I had forgotten we were going to be with them for two days, and got a little nervous. We had dinner at the church with them, then shortly after dinner we talked about the 4K. The 4k riders talked briefly about their connection to the cancer community. After dinner Eric and I loaded our gear into the Halverson’s car. We drove through suburbia of Omaha, it’s an amazing town! I really like the community feel is has. We made a pit stop to the E-creamery (http://www.ecreamery.com/) It was by far the BEST gelato I’ve ever had. I think Ada had more on her face than she ate, haha. Those girls were super cute, it was like being a big brother again! They followed us around us much as they could. When we got home, they showed us to our rooms, which were in a finished attic. Ceilings were just a bit small for us, but it was cozy! (see picture below). Both Kellys, Eric and I hung out on the front porch, drank a few cold ones and chatted about 4K, cycling, what everyone was up to and a whole lot more. We also got to catch fireflies with the girls, which was really fun. I haven’t done that since I was little. Shortly after Eric, Allie and I made our way downtown to check it out. It wasn’t longer before all three of us were tired and just ready for bed! We got home around 1130 and hit the sack! What an awesome day!!!

Overall it was a stellar day!
