June 12, 2012

French Lake, IN to Vincennes IN. 60.5 miles
New Host: First Baptist Church of Vincennes.
Previous Host: Combination of Local Methodist Church and Local Senior Center.

I graduated college! I just got an email from my dad that I got my diploma in the mail, woohoo! Graduation party when I return!

Today I was a van driver, mainly due to calf and knee strain. It was almost my turn to be in the van anyway so it was nice to get it done for the next two weeks. This time I was in the water van, opposed to the lunch van. I think this doing this duty is less stressful because we set up water and food stops every 20 miles, and pick up people if there is a bike mechanical or injury. We also chalk every turn, which makes it easy for the riders. This way they are not having to constantly look at a cue sheet. We have fun with the chalk, writing fun notes on the ground for them. ( We ALWAYS are in need in chalk! If you are able to donate chalk or gift cards to wal-mart that would be awesome!) Chalk is one of the resources we ask for local store to donate, on top of food, sunscreen, Gatorade, clif, chewy, nature valley bars…etc. That’s part of the lunch van’s job.

Our next mail drop is:

Today the riders rode about 60 miles. The first 20 miles were the last of the hills for a while. I was surprised and excited to hear that they weren’t a big problem for a majority of the riders, which means they are getting stronger. Our first water stop was basically on someones front yard. That person happened to be a really nice lady, Jean, whom Trish and Chey talked to for a while. They are going to dedicate some rides for a few of her family members. This is 4k reaching the community and putting a smile on their face, and happiness in their soul. She was so proud of what we were doing and was glad we happened to land in her front yard.

Tomorrow we ride to Effingham Illinois.

No Strava Map today since I didn’t ride and my Garmin was dead. Here is a Google Map:
