When you are faced with 86 miles, there is plenty of time for creativity. Lots of creativity.
Emma and I wrote the beginning of a song yesterday on our way to Libby. It goes to the tune of “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music.
Team Seattle’s Favorite Things
Downhills and tailwinds
Shoulders and snack bins
Bike trails and showers and fields full of flowers
Community dinners that bring lots of food
These are the things that make us feel good!
Tan lines and street signs
Sunscreen and peeing
Gas stations, coffee and lots of toffee
Laundry facilities, lots of clean clothes
These are the things every 4Ker knows!
When it’s uphill and its freezing
When I have a flat….
We simply remember all of these things and then we don’t feel so bad!
Emma and I are still working on the next few verses. But stay tuned! Our goal is to fully encapsulate Team Seattle 2011 in song…. hopefully by Seattle

The favorite things become about the very simple things! Love it. Thanks for the smile.
Hello Carolyn (and Emma, too),
What great lyrics, love it! Our granddaughter, Taylor Koriakin, is on the SF ride. We like to read all the blogs from all 3 journeys. You are almost there! Safe journey, God bless.
Ethel & Allen Koriakin
Sing away, ladies! Great lyrics. You are almost in Seattle, believe it or not. Ride safely.
Alison Kaplan
Oh, the creative juices are flowing strong as you head into this final leg of your journey! Seattle is nearly upon you, positive energy for the final 10 days is sent your way.
Abo’s Mom
I like the toffee part. But, then I’m not riding my bicycle everyday and everyday and everyday.
Colette’s Dad
This made me smile while I read it at work and sung it in my head
– a welcome distraction. Wish I had the 10 hours of free time to think on my bike again! Miss you all, you’re almost there!
